We saw the blonde beauty walking through the clothing section of F&F, when she said: “Me and my mum came to Tesco to shop, but I came for the clothes.
“You know what? Tesco clothes have improved a lot over the years.”
Seeing a range of trendy animal print pieces, she smiled: “They actually have a lot of leopard prints – they’re clearly on trend.”
Lily found a stunning maxi skirt for just £18, which she thought was “cute”, and although she said some of the tops gave off “grandma and grandma” vibes, she acknowledged that F&F “does some legal things”.
She also spotted the Zara dupes, adding: “They have some white striped shirts.
“This looks like the one I got from Zara the other day.
“That’s great. It’s giving Zara.”
She then revealed the perfect £22.50 buy for summer – waistcoats.
Is supermarket fashion the new high street?
DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:
Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you go to do your weekly food shopping, you can also choose from a selection of stylish, purse-friendly pieces for the whole family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to “strong growth in clothing” and M&S has claimed the title of number one womenswear destination on the high street.
Asda’s clothing line George made £1.5m for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes were sold at full price rather than discounted, and sales of Nutmeg at Morrisons also rose by 2 percent last year.
So what is it about supermarket fashion that is so successful?
Not only are the clothes really affordable, they’re also good quality – many of them being part of programs like the Better Cotton Initiative.
They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.
Plus, because they buy so much inventory, they can deliver parts quickly and buy cheaper because of volumes.
Vests have become an incredibly stylish wardrobe staple this season, and Lily made sure to get in on the trend, sharing: “I got it – this is the white vest.
“That’s actually really cute.”
Reasons to buy supermarket fashion
When looking for new pieces to add to your seasonal wardrobe or update basics, there’s no need to spend hours wandering around clothing stores or browsing online. Just grab a dress or two along with your fruits and vegetables…
They are convenient – You are likely to visit your supermarket more often than a shopping center or high street.
It’s affordable – From basics to fashion-forward pieces, supermarkets are paving the way for budget-friendly fashion that doesn’t look cheap.
They are more fashionable than you think – With a customer database larger than the average high street store, stores such as ASDA, Sainsbury’s and Tesco are able to serve markets and forecast trends in many more areas than just food supply.
They fit well – Fits and lengths often come with a little more modesty in mind. The fabrics also tend to be highly practical – think plenty of 100% cotton that can be thrown into the washing machine without thinking.
She then spotted another very similar vest, in a cream colour, also for just £22.50, as she explained: “My mum bought me this one too, this one is really nice.”
But not only does F&F sell a variety of summer products, there are also hoodies that are perfect for fall.
The fashionista concluded: “These sweaters feel so soft – they’re so cute.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @lilyrudkinnIt clearly impressed many as it quickly racked up 20,900 views.
Fashionistas were surprised by the news and one person took to the comments and wrote: “I love this!”
