Have you ever walked through Aldi and wondered why there are so many prices ending in 99p?
Well, one woman did this and decided to ask if anyone knew the reason for the pricing choices.
In the comments section of a video Aldi employee Dylan shared about what’s new at the store, she asked: “Why does everything end in 0.99, is it a marketing issue?”
“It’s called Psychological Pricing,” said someone else.
“It makes it look cheaper than it is!”
In fact, as Dylan panned the camera around the store’s center aisles, each price ended at 99 cents.
Due to the psychological pricing strategy, customers feel they are paying less when stocking up on essentials at prices like £4.99 rather than a whole number like £5.
Other strategies that stores like Aldi use is putting things “on offer” for just a few cents less or listing prices in unit prices rather than comparing a 120g item with 250g of the same thing – again giving the illusion that they are more cheap.
Items on offer at Aldi this week include organizational items like glue sticks and family planners, as well as an adorable ‘memory board’ that’s perfect for marking the new school year.
At the end of the video, Dylan revealed that one of his future videos would cover the store’s new health and beauty products.
With one person commenting on the clip: “Ooo makeup and beauty!
“And we’re grateful for you.
“Thanks for the updates, I never miss a deal because of you!!”
“I really like you showing what’s new at Aldi,” praised another.
“Thank you for giving up your time!”
“I’m thankful I can see what the special buys are before heading to Aldi!” a third commented.
“You did me a big favor with the baby and toddler event.”
And eagle-eyed shoppers will keep an eye on Dylan’s video to try and identify when the highly anticipated wooden toy event hits stores.
“Dylan, do you know when ALDI’s crazy wooden toy event is?” one wrote.
More shopping in Aldi’s mid-aisle
IF it’s mid-aisle shopping you’re looking for here, some of the new items you won’t want to miss.
“The one that made everyone lose their minds last year?”
“I need to take a day off for this event,” added another.
“I think I’ll camp outside if they do that again,” laughed a third.
“I keep watching tik tok videos from last year,” another person commented.
“It looks like it’s around October 19th. I’m determined to go this year.”
Aldi has not yet confirmed the official date for the arrival of sales of wooden toys in stores.
