IF you have ever traveled by plane, you can guarantee that you will be greeted by a friendly flight attendant upon boarding.
But now a cabin crew member has revealed the main reason for the pleasantries – and it’s not just to do with being polite.
In a video On her TikTok page, Wizz Air flight attendant Ioana explained: “Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not just out of politeness…
“But also to check if you are too drunk or sick to fly.”
“Did you know?” Ioana captioned her video.
In the accompanying clip, she was seen greeting guests on the plane with a wide smile, while looking elegant and professional in her Wizz Air uniform.
“I didn’t know this before, but I know now,” one person commented on the video.
As another added: “I knew I wasn’t crazy for thinking they looked at you too much when they said hi!”
“I thought they counted,” said a third.
“I always knew they were scanning!” someone commented.
“Watching….. Always Watching…!!!” another laughed.
“I thought it was to make them look approachable,” someone mused.
“Haha, I thought it was to check your boarding passes,” said another.
As someone wrote: “I feel like they always look and judge!”
To which another flight attendant replied: “Yes!”
Others said they believed the flight attendant’s greetings were intended to check whether passengers were eager to fly.
“Someone saw a child crying and invited him to see the pilot to make sure everything was going to be okay,” one wrote.
“Don’t judge me when I get on the plane with bloodshot eyes,” wrote another.
Airplane etiquette
IF you’re planning to travel soon, you’ll need to pay attention to the following unwritten rules of plane etiquette…
RECLINING SEAT: Podcast host and etiquette expert Nick Leighton explained that you shouldn’t recline your seat if the passenger behind you is working on their laptop.
He said: “No one likes having their laptop broken in half.”
Before reclining your seat, it’s best to check what the passenger behind you is doing.
If they are on a laptop, ask before moving the seat back.
FEET: A flight attendant told The Sun: “Your boarding pass has a number and a letter on it, this will be the reserved seat you paid for.
“Your feet, which are attached to your body, must do their best to reside in this space and stay away from anyone else.
“If you insist on stretching, make sure your feet are covered.”
CHAT: TV travel expert Samantha Brown explained that conversations from strangers are not welcome, suggesting that others shouldn’t expect chat.
She added: “I’m not much of a talker. Airplane time is my time.”
“I have so much anxiety about flying that I cry hysterically before getting on the plane!”
“And to know if you’re okay – I always cry and hyperventilate because I’m scared of takeoff and you always help me!”
“I had such a lovely person this month who noticed I was really anxious,” another person commented.
“She talked to me about everything and said if I needed her I could just press the button – it was so beautiful.”
And some people hilariously said they thought the greeting was because the flight attendant was flirting with them.
“All this time I thought she liked me,” one wrote.
“I’m devastated, I thought they were flirting with me,” another sighed.
“And I thought they liked me,” said a third.
“No, they’re checking me out,” another person declared confidently.
