A POPULAR cinema chain has closed yet another of its locations after customers noticed a telltale sign.
The cinema closed its doors for the final time this weekend after viewers realized no showing times had been scheduled for next week.
The AMC theater in El Paso, Texas — an hour and a half flight from Austin — held its final showing on Sunday.
Viewers thought something was wrong when they noticed the website had no information about movie screenings next week.
The closure of this movie theater location was confirmed after an AMC spokesperson released a statement to the Fox affiliate KFOX14.
“I can confirm that AMC has ceased operations at East Pointe 12 following the close of business last Sunday, August 11,” the statement said.

“AMC routinely reviews theaters in our circuit, as well as opportunities outside of our circuit, and makes decisions based on what will strengthen the company in the future.
“We thank our 12 East Pointe guests for their sponsorship.
“We appreciate the community’s support over the years of operation.
“We invite guests to continue enjoying the AMC experience at AMC El Paso 16, which offers popular amenities.”
Following this announcement, viewers gathered at the AMC East Point 12 location for a final visit.
“We should really enjoy it before it closes again, we have so many nostalgic memories here,” said one fan.
“We’ve been coming here for years, since my kids were little, and we still come here from time to time,” said another resident.
Mother and son paid an emotional tribute to the cinema after visiting it for the last time.
“It’s great that she and I were able to share something between generations because I also love movies, I’m really devastated that this place is going to close, but I will always remember the good times we had here,” said her son.
This isn’t the first AMC theater to close in recent times.
The chain was forced to close stores in Nebraska, Ohio and Indiana last year.
Restaurant Closings in 2024
BOSSes of major restaurant chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The US Sun compiled a list of those affected by the network.
- Biscuit Barrel: Stores in Medford, Oregon, Columbia, South Carolina and Sacramento, California, closed.
- Mod Pizza: Bosses dramatically closed 27 stores in April, including some in the state of California.
- Frisch’s Big Boy: Restaurant bosses confirmed the closure of a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky, in April.
- Outback Steakhouse: The chain will close 41 “underperforming” locations this year.
- Two dollars: Four restaurants in Ohio closed in April.
- Pepper: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has closed permanently, as has another in Irvine, California.
- Friendly: Bosses have confirmed that an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, will close.
- Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed in late March, followed by four in Ohio in June and 15 in Indiana.
- Danny: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
- Carl’s Jr.: The first location in Boise, Idaho, has closed.
- Inside and outside: A location in Oakland closed earlier this year due to crime in the area.

- Rubio’s Coastal Grill: Announced the closure of 48 locations in California after filing for bankruptcy.
- Burger King: It closed a California location in June after 30 years.
Theater goers were particularly upset when AMC announced it was closing its only Delaware location earlier this year.
“I like going to the movies, getting away from everything and forgetting about my problems,” said one Delaware resident.
The theater closed in March 2024, but AMC provided no explanation for its closure.
FINANCIAL STRUGGLES
AMC Theater came close to filing for bankruptcy in the wake of the pandemic.
The chain is managing around $4.5 billion in debt, which would explain why some of its locations have been forced to close in recent times.
AMC, however, was hoping to attract business this summer by showing some events from the 2024 Paris Olympics.
About 160 AMC locations sold tickets for fans to watch their favorite sporting events between July 27 and August 11.
NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel said screenings at AMC Theaters would “fuel general enthusiasm for the Games.”
“The Olympic Games always provide a wonderful, shared experience, and this summer communities across the country will have the opportunity to cheer for Team USA or your hometown hero at local ACM theaters,” he added.
Adam Aron, president and CEO of AMC Theaters, said after this summer that he feels 2025 and 2026 will be “gangbusters” for the company’s growth.
