FORMER Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has criticized Donald Trump and party members for focusing on Kamala Harris’ lack of interviews rather than addressing her policies.
Despite Haley, 52,’s support for the former president at the Republican National Convention in July, the former South Carolina governor has some advice she thinks Trump, 78, should follow to win in November.
She spoke on Fox News Special Report with Bret Baier arguing that Trump and the Republican Party should recognize the policies of Harris, 59, rather than discussing the size of her rally crowds, her race or questioning her intelligence.
“You can’t win at these things. The American people are smart. Treat them like they’re smart,” she said, per Fox News.
“This isn’t about her. This is about the American people. Talk to them and tell them you need their vote.”
She also said, “Republicans shouldn’t be surprised that we’re running now against Kamala Harris. It was her all along.”
Haley also called on Republicans to “stop complaining” and “stop complaining” about how Harris has yet to give a formal interview or press conference since replacing Joe Biden and receiving his endorsement.
“We knew it would be her. She’s not going to give an interview,” Haley said on Fox.
“They’re going to resist as long as they can. It’s their right. They can do that. That doesn’t mean we can’t speak out about what she believes. And we should go out there and do that.”
The former presidential candidate said she “takes her [Harris] on her word” and Republicans “don’t need” an interview with Harris.
“I take her at her word that she thinks illegal immigrants should be able to vote and receive driver’s licenses,” she explained.
“I take her at her word that she wants to ban fracking and kill a lot of jobs in the U.S.. Take her at her word.”
She also advised Trump to “campaign every day” and to win, he “has to go out and do the work.”
‘IN THE NAME OF UNITY’
In March, after the end of her White House campaign, Haley said she would not support Trump for president.
However, she aligned herself with other members of her party and declared that she would support the former president in November.
“Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I’ve made that clear many, many times,” Haley told a crowd at the Hudson Institute during her first public appearance since dropping out.
“But Biden was a catastrophe. Therefore, I will vote for Trump.”
She added: “That said, I stand by what I said in my suspension speech.
“Trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continue to support me, and not assume that they will simply stand with him. And I really hope he does that.”
Trump’s main political points
DONALD Trump closed the Republican National Convention on July 18 by telling his supporters he wanted to become president for “all Americans.”
- Implement tax cuts, including no tax on tips
- Protecting Social Security and Medicare – Trump said ‘incomes will soar and the middle class will prosper like never before’
- Securing the borders – He promised to end the ‘border nightmare’. That means two things on day one: ‘Drill baby Drill’, as he said, and closing the borders
- Finishing the construction of the wall
- Keeping our ‘sons and daughters safe’
- Replenish the military and build a military ‘dome’ – Trump insisted he could stop wars with just a phone call and said no military would be able to penetrate the US if he took office
- End the war in Ukraine and impose tariffs on Iran
- Promising to “beat” China
- Work to lower prices and alleviate inflation
- Reducing the cost of energy
- Making cities “safe, clean and beautiful” again
- Making it possible for Americans to buy gas-powered cars, ending the electric vehicle mandate on the first day of his presidency
During the July RNC, the former ambassador was one of many people who took the stage and addressed Republican voters.
“I didn’t always agree with Trump. But we agree more often than we disagree,” she admitted.
“We agree to keep America strong. We agree to keep America safe. And we agree that the Democrats have moved so far to the left that they are putting our freedoms in danger.”
She continued: “President Trump asked me to speak at this convention on behalf of unity. It was a gracious invitation and I was happy to accept.”
Haley also praised Trump’s foreign policies, saying there were “no invasions or wars” during his administration.
She concluded her speech by calling for unity, saying, “Let us unite as a party. Let us unite as a people.”
LACK OF INTERVIEWS
Harris was criticized by the media, Trump and Republicans for not holding a press conference and for her repetitive speeches at rallies.
She was accused of neglecting questions from the press and instead speaking only to supporters at her rallies.
The Democratic nominee, who announced her running mate, Tim Walz, earlier this month, stopped briefly on the tarmac to address reporters.
“What do you have?!” she asked coldly while giving short answers to the questions.
She discussed an upcoming debate with Trump on September 10 and said she would be “happy” to discuss future debates.
In response to her lack of media appearances, she said, “I’ve talked to my team. I want us to schedule an interview before the end of the month.”
However, there were no announcements about a press conference with the vice president.
