MOST dog owners will refuse to go on holiday abroad if they have to leave their pets behind, a survey has found.
Almost seven in ten won’t travel because of their dogs, but half of those who did missed them more than their children.
And three-quarters thought about their canine friends every day while they were away.
Adem Fehmi from the pet care website Rover.comwho did the research, said: “It’s natural to worry about leaving your dog behind when you go on holiday.
“However, with proper planning and care, you can ensure your dog remains happy and healthy in your absence – and even feel like he’s had his own vacation!
“With this in mind, hiring a trusted, vetted pet sitter can be a great option for pet care when you travel.
“Based on your dog’s specific needs and temperament, you can decide whether you would prefer the sitter to stay in your home, or alternatively, they can offer your dog a home away from home experience.
“Whatever you choose, always make sure you meet your sitter before any holidays and give your dog the opportunity to meet her.”
“A vet sitter will be able to meet your dog’s individual needs, follow any daily routines you have, and help your dog feel as stress-free as possible in your absence.
“To help ensure peace of mind, always discuss and make clear details about any specific requirements your dog has, including details about their normal day-to-day appearance, favorite places to walk, food and ways of offering them attention.”
