HARRY CHARLES withdrew from the individual vault final at the last minute.
Charles was set to be one of THREE Brits competing in Tuesday morning’s final in Paris.
But an injury to his horse, Romeo 88, derailed his bid for individual Olympic gold.
A heartbroken Charles wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately, Romeo and I will not be starting the singles final today in doubles.
“After a little overtaking yesterday, he is not at the 110% that he has been during all the games, so we are not going to take any risks.
“Maybe I’m a little disappointed, but honestly no!
“He gave me so much and took me beyond my dreams.
“We’re leaving Paris with a gold medal and, more importantly, a happy Romeo, so that’s more than enough for me!”
Team GB’s hopes of winning gold in the individual final rested on the shoulders of veterans Ben Maher and Scott Brash.

But the pair were unable to claim a 13th gold of the tournament for Team GB as they both suffered four-point penalties during the opening races.
A despondent Charles – who won team vault gold earlier in the Games – was inundated with messages of support from his followers.
One wrote: “Maximum respect for putting Romeo first, as it always should be.
“You two were amazing and you should be so proud.”
Another said: “Destroyed by you guys but unbelievable performances all week. Congratulations Olympic champions.”
And another said: “Getting to know your horse and showing that level of horsemanship at a major life event like this is absolutely amazing to see.
“Sending all my love from California!”
One commented: “It’s a shame but you guys were fabulous in these games and have already shown your class.
“And always putting the horse first too – respect.”
Another added: “It’s great to see you guys putting Romeo first, but I’m gutted I won’t see you two competing in the final after the way he’s jumping!”
Romeo 88 owner Ann Thompson also weighed in.
She said: “As Romeo’s owner, there are no words to explain my gratitude that Harry put my horse before himself.
“A sign of a true knight. Romeo had plans to leave more of himself in Versailles, but we’re going home with the Gold team.
“What a horse.”
