City Kickboxing coach Eugene Bareman took a good look at how [autotag]Israel Adesanya[/autotag] needs to get closer to the UFC middleweight champion [autotag]Dricus Du Plessis[/autotag].
Former champion Adesanya (24-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) challenges Du Plessis (21-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) at Saturday’s UFC 305 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main event at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
Sean Strickland’s pressure attack caused Adesanya problems in their title fight at UFC 293, leaving Du Plessis confident he can achieve similar success. Bareman acknowledges that Adesanya must be wary of this and time his offense accordingly.
“The trick is really – we know that Israel can advance, and we know that Israel can fight on the back foot, and it can do very well on the front foot,” Bareman said. Send radio. “But the trick is finding the balance between what we need. If we get too up front, that obviously makes us vulnerable to certain things. And if we get too defensive, there will be vulnerabilities. Then, it’s finding the exact balance of what you need. need between these two to win the fight.
“And that will be part of the challenge of the night’s fight, because it will be an adjustment that has to be made on the fly by all teams. the back foot and start looking to counterattack. How good do you have to look to be the type of boxer-puncher and boxer-counter-puncher at the same time. That’s the fascinating part everyone can look forward to, right?”
Adesanya’s most recent victory came with his back to the cage, where he hit Alex Pereira with two perfect counter rights to knock him out at UFC 287. Despite losing the title to Strickland, DraftKings has Adesanya as a slight favorite of – 115 to regain his title against Du Plessis, who is a +105 underdog.
