Known for its lax return policy, Costco has been recognized as lenient compared to other stores when it comes to accepting items back from customers.

The store’s willingness to return used furniture, extinct plants and old food has shocked many customers over the years.

Store policy gives members money back on most items they are not 100% satisfied with, with few exceptions.

One viewer was left baffled by several returns he witnessed, especially one woman who returned an empty wine bottle.

The shopper shared the details on Costco subreddit.

“The lady who brought an empty bottle of wine that she [drank] alone,” they wrote.

She wanted her money back, according to the Redditor “because it gave her a headache.”

“[It] It still makes me laugh,” they continued.

“Did anyone manage to return the wine?” another user questioned.

“Because at every Costco’s I’ve been to, alcohol is non-refundable and I say this as someone who even asked when Costco’s golden tequila gave me the courage to make three separate purchases,” they wrote.

Yes, it also got her money back… which was weird because it seemed to work if she got a headache after drinking the whole bottle alone,” the original poster said.

TO RETURN OR NOT TO RETURN

Although Costco accepts a lot of stupid returns, the most common reason a wholesaler cancels someone’s subscription is abuse of Costco’s return policy, reported The motley fool.

Return abuse carries more weight than theft, fraudulent shoplifting and aggressive or impolite behavior, according to the outlet.

Former Costco member Maryam Nicksolat had her membership revoked in 2018 after trying to return a printer she returned eight years earlier.

She said she was having trouble with it but forgot to return it, Business Insider reported.

Meanwhile, another woman showed up with several dirty toilets purchased online more than five years ago,” according to a Costco employee via Business Insider.

Costco warehouses in New York and Texas confessed to tracking customer returns, tracking things like item frequency and cost when considering whether to continue accepting items.

But some shoppers are breaking away from the store before they have the chance to be kicked out.

A customer canceled his subscription after being told he could not return a spoiled piece of fish.

Costco accepted the return of a used mattress from a customer who brought in a two-year-old mattress.

Additionally, shoppers say a routine offender should be banned after returning a $200 skincare product refilled with water.
